Scholarship Eligibility

Ariana Aparacio 2008 Scholar

Residence Requirement:

Scholarships are available to applicants when the principal legal residence of the student and family is in coastal West Marin (Pt Reyes, Inverness, Olema, Nicasio, Tomales, Marshall, Dillon Beach, Stinson Beach, Bolinas) and/or the student has attended schools in the Shoreline School District. The student may reapply for continuing scholarships for 3 years, with a maximum of 4 annual scholarships as long as the family continues its principle legal residence in coastal West Marin.

After successful completion of the first year of college, IGC scholarship recipients may reapply to the Fund for three years. These years are to be run consecutively except when extenuating circumstances interfere. When an interruption in college attendance has occurred and a student reapplies for a scholarship, each situation will be considered on its merits by the Scholarship Committee.

Evaluation Criteria:

The scholarships are awarded to qualified applicants based on Grade Point Average, SAT scores, evidence of ability to succeed at the school the student has chosen to attend and financial need. A "B" average (3.0) or higher is desirable. In addition the committee considers community service, extra curricular activities, work experience, and family responsibilities. If funding permits, the policy of the IGCSF to award a slightly higher percentage of its scholarship awards each year to new students.

Situations that are exceptions to these guidelines or arise due to special circumstances may be presented to the IGC Scholarship Fund for consideration. No retroactive scholarships will be awarded.

Enrollment Standards:

Students must be planning to attend college, university, vocational or trade school, and may enroll full time (12+ units) or, if circumstances require, part time (9-11 units). Applicants intending to develop skills in crafts and trades are considered as carefully as those enrolling in academic programs. Extension work will be accepted only if it is awarded full college credit from an accredited institution.

High School Graduates, First Year Scholars:

A cumulative minimum 2.5 GPA in no less than 9 units (part-time ) or 12 units (full time) each semester or quarter is required at the end of the first year of college. Thereafter, in the second and subsequent years, a minimum cumulative 2.7 GPA in no less than 12 units is required.

Continuing Scholars:

To reapply, a student must have completed a minimum of 9 units (part-time) or 12 units (full time) with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 at the end of the freshman academic year. If a continuing scholarship has been awarded and the student does not achieve a 2.5 cumulative average at the end of the freshman year, the scholarship will be withdrawn. In subsequent years, a student must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.7 at the end of each academic year. If a continuing scholarship has been awarded and the student does not achieve a 2.7 cumulative average at the end of sophomore or junior year, the scholarship will be withdrawn. Scholarships for continuing students are dependent upon the current year’s funding and are not guaranteed.
